Mark Haisma
Bogan Goes Walkabout 2021
$33
Mark Haisma, with an intriguing background blending Australian, French, and Dutch heritage, brings a wealth of experience from his ten-year tenure at Yarra Yering, a renowned winery in the incredible expanse of the Yarra Valley. This unique heritage and learning experience paved the way for his venture into European winemaking. Since 2009, he has been crafting wines in Burgundy, distinguishing himself as a micro-negociant. This group of artisans, characterized by their remarkable talent and lack of vineyard ownership, source grapes from growers who either partially or entirely forgo bottling their harvest. The micros, including Mark, engage deeply in vineyard work to ensure the grapes they acquire meet the highest standards. Mark's 'Bogan' wines boldly eschew the confines of AOC regulations.
The Bogan Goes Walkabout, a true testament to this spirit, emerges from a co-fermentation of Syrah and Gamay sourced from Mancey, just north of Viré and Clessé in Macon. While the 2021 vintage incorporates a larger share of Pinot Noir and Gamay, the forthcoming 2022 edition will lean heavily on Syrah, complemented by a touch of Pinot.
