Floral, aromatic orange wine from a tiny ancient parcel in Roussillon — Muscat d'Alexandrie, Muscat de Petits Grains, and Macabeu, fermented in old wood and built around scarcity. 15–20 hectolitres per hectare.
Muscat d'Alexandrie, Muscat de Petits Grains, Macabeu • Roussillon • Skin contact • Old wood
Tom Lubbe farms biodynamically on schist and marl soils in Calce, at altitude, where yields this low are a reflection of how ancient and stressed the vines are rather than any deliberate restriction. The Cuvée Marguerite comes from one of Matassa's smallest parcels — a mix of two Muscats and Macabeu on slate and marl, fermented in 500-litre wooden barrels and aged 3–4 months on fine lees. No fining, no filtration, no added sulphur. Despite the heat of Roussillon, the wine clocks in at 12% — a direct result of the altitude, the soils, and the biodynamic approach that keeps the vines in balance.
Like a Mediterranean flower meadow. Tom's words, not ours — and for once, completely accurate.
