Josep Piñol is an agronomic engineer who walked away from industrial agriculture and came back to his family's century-old masía in Rasquera, in the Ribera d'Ebre. Since 2018 he's been making natural wine here. The international varieties in the Emperic — Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon — are treated no differently from the Garnatxa: native ferments, no sulphites, no filtration. Two years in barrel, then bottle. The goal isn't to replicate anything. It's to see what these grapes taste like when they speak Catalan — and what they become with a bit of patience.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: dark cherry, blackberry, dried herbs, light spice
Palate: ripe dark fruit, earthy undertone, rich and structured
Texture: full-bodied, smooth tannins, generous and warm
Finish: long, persistent, and distinctly southern Catalan
Serve at "room temperature", max 18 Celsius.
