Intensely structured Pinot Gris from Slovenian Styria — 14 days on skins, 18 months in Slovenian oak, and nothing added. Ever. One of the most radical natural winemakers working today.
Pinot Gris • Slovenian Styria / Lenart • Long maceration • 18 months in oak foudre
Radovan Šuman is entirely self-taught, farming the rolling hills of Slovenian Styria just across the border from Austria — neighbours with Franz Strohmeier and Sepp Muster. Demeter biodynamic certified since 2012. No ploughing, no spraying, no additions of any kind — not even sulphur. The Šuman philosophy is absolute: the family's relationship with the land traces back to 1430, and Radovan's approach is to listen and guide only when necessary. The Sivi Pinot is his most intense wine: grapes from Lenart vineyards, 14 days of skin contact, pressed and aged 18 months in large Slovenian oak foudre on fine lees, bottled without filtration or clarification.
Big, tannic, alive — and worth every bit of patience it asks for.
