The La Levée 2023 from Alexandre Bain is a rich, characterful Sauvignon Blanc that showcases the winemaker’s singular approach to natural viticulture in Pouilly-Fumé. Grown on the La Lévée vineyard, located right next to the estate on sand and limestone soils, the vines were planted in 1985, giving depth and maturity to the fruit.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by aging in used French oak barrels, creating a wine that is both pure and complex. Expect aromas of ripe stone fruit, citrus, and subtle exotic notes, balanced by vibrant acidity and a stony minerality. Generous yet taut — a vin nature with flair, and a thrilling expression of Bain’s distinctive style.
As always, Alexandre Bain defies convention: working his 11 hectares biodynamically, ploughing with horses, and harvesting late for riper, golden fruit. His refusal to compromise led him to bottle as Vin de France, granting the freedom that defines his soulful, expressive wines.
