Verdejo from 65-year-old vines at 800 metres in Zamora — not the aromatic, explosive style Rueda made famous. This is the other side of the grape: textured, concentrated, and aged 11 months in old oak.
Verdejo • Castilla y León / Zamora • Old vines • 11 months in oak
Elisa de Frutos and Rubén Salamanca farm biodynamically near Cuéllar and source from trusted growers across the region. The Las Lomas Blanco comes from 65-year-old bush-trained Verdejo vines in Zamora — not their own vineyard, but one they’re working toward organic certification with. Rocky, iron-rich red clay soils at 800 metres with 4,500 vines per hectare and yields of only 3,500kg/ha. Hand-harvested in early September in 20kg crates, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in used oak barrels from 225 to 500 litres, where it stays for 11 months. Cold stabilised before bottling.
4,197 bottles of 75cl.
