Deep, vibrant ancestral rosé from either side of the Pyrenees — Grenache Noir from Empordà, Muscat from 60-year-old vines, and a name that tells a story about borders and contraband.
Lledoner Negre, Muscat • Ancestral Rosé • Empordà • Natural • 2,266 bottles
Jordi Esteve's Contraban is named after the natural wine festival he runs in Rabós d'Empordà, a village on the edge of the Albera — the mountain range that separates Catalonia from Roussillon. The idea is the border itself: grapes from both sides, wines that cross freely. This 2023 is all Jordi's own fruit — 95% Lledoner Negre from 40-year-old vines, 5% Muscat from a 60-year-old parcel. Forty-eight hours of maceration, then pressed and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel. Hand-harvested, nothing added.
The label has three bullet holes. The smuggler didn't make it. The wine did.
