Island wine in its purest form — grown practically within sight of the sea on the steep, sun-scorched slopes of Isola del Giglio. Seville orange, bitter almond, salt, and ozone. There's nowhere else this wine could come from.

Francesco Carfagna grew up in Rome, spent summers on Giglio as a child, worked as a professor and street performer, then made the decision to move to the island permanently. He lives with his family in a former windmill beneath the Castello di Giglio and tends some of the last remaining vines on an island that was once entirely covered in Ansonaco. The grape is Giglio's own name for Ansonica — thick-skinned, concentrated, shaped by relentless sun and salt air. Nearly zero rainfall means the fruit is intense; the vines are trained low in alberello, some over 25 years old, struggling out of rocky slopes that lead straight to the Mediterranean.
Unfiltered, unclarified, and with nothing added. Fewer than 600 people live on this island year-round. Francesco is one of them.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Seville orange, bitter almond, acacia, iodine, wild herbs
Palate: ripe apricot, grapefruit pith, saline mineral depth
Texture: full, grippy, with the weight of a warm island summer
Finish: long, bitter-edged, and unmistakably coastal
Serve cool but not cold. Decant if you can.
