A rare pink-skinned mutation of Rkatsiteli from the village of Tibaani — fermented on skins in buried clay qvevri, pale garnet in colour, and built around cranberry, rose petal, and fine-grained tannins. Georgia at its most distinctive.
Rkatsiteli Vardisperi • Kakheti • Qvevri • Skin contact
Pheasant's Tears was founded in Sighnaghi in 2005 by American painter John Wurdeman and Gela Patalishvili, whose family has been making wine in Kakheti for eight generations. Their mission was simple: keep the ancient qvevri traditions alive and rescue the rare indigenous varieties that were quietly disappearing. Vardisperi — "like a rose" — is a pink-skinned mutation of Rkatsiteli that Pheasant's Tears helped bring back from the edge. Grown on sandstone and quartz soils near Tibaani at 400 metres, hand-harvested, 3 weeks of skin maceration in buried qvevri, then 6 months in qvevri and 3 months in stainless steel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, zero sulphur.
